We Can Help - send in your old baseball gear

I received an email detailing the holiday needs of the soldiers protecting our freedoms abroad.  The email outlined a list of items that the soldiers requested to receive in care packages this holiday season - one item on the list stood out from the others;  the soldiers asked for used baseball equipment.  I have a bag of balls, quite a few bats and gloves that have been in the lost and found for years, and a few helmets to donate, but I thought that a collective effort could produce impressive results.  Please call or email me over the Thanksgiving break if you are interested in participating and I will set up a collection place and time this coming Saturday 11/24.  The collection will conclude over the weekend and be shipped on Monday 11/26.  Sorry for the short notice, but hopefully you can help.

Falcons (5-14) 1 Battlefield 0

Wow!  On Senior night the Falcons got it done, outlasting Battlefield in a 12 inning Cedar Run contest.  The Falcons were paced by superb pitching performances by Senior Branden Bartlett, throwing the first seven innings, and Senior Adam Young getting the win throwing the last five innings of the ball game.  The Falcons offense was held to 6 hits in the contest as Seniors Colin Miller(2), Branden Bartlett, Nick Caito, and Adam Young provided the offense.  The other hit came off of the bat of Andrew Byrd in the 12th.  Byrd's hit set the table for the game ending play in which Billy Pierce sacrifice bunted to the Catcher and the throw to first was errant, scoring Byrd on the play.

Falcons (4-13) 4 Liberty 5

The Falcons lost tonight to local rival Liberty.  The Falcons were held to 5 hits in the contest, one a home run from Cassidy McDaniel.  Adam Young and Greg Ussery pitched, allowing 3 earned runs, but the Falcons couldn't muster enough offense to support it.  The Falcons face OP at home on Tuesday in a Cedar Run contest.

Falcons (4-12) 4 Stonewall Jackson 5

The Falcons started with a bang on back to back home runs in the first by Branden Bartlett and Cassidy McDaniel, but were unable to keep the offensive pressure on throughout, resulting in another hard fought loss.  Branden Bartlett was effective in the start, and Greg Ussery kept the game in reach out of the bullpen.  The Falcons made a push in the 6th when McDaniel, Andrew Byrd and Nick Caito loaded the bases for Freshman Ryan Smith(2-3 on the night) who delivered with an RBI single.  That is where the scoring ended for the Falcons who face local rival Liberty High School Friday at Athey Memorial Ballpark at Fauquier High School.

Falcons (4-11) 1 Osbourn 3

The Falcons battled hard but came up short, unable to provide stronger run support behind an outstanding Cassidy McDaniel pitching outing.  McDaniel went the distance and was backed by a strong team defense performance.  The Falcons only run came in the third when freshman catcher Ryan Smith singled with one out.  That was followed by a base hits by Colin Miller and Branden Bartlett to load the bases.  The run came when Ryan Smith tagged and scored on a sacrifice fly by McDaniel.  But that would be it for the Falcons offense and the team falls to 1-5 in the Cedar Run.  The Falcons next matchup is Thursday at Stonewall Jackson.

Falcons(4-10) 6 Culpeper 3

The Falcons stopped the skid Friday night, beating Culpeper 6-3 in a Cedar Run contest.  The pitching duties were handled by Greg Ussery, who earned the win with the help of a solid defensive performance behind him.  Cassidy McDaniel came on in the seventh to earn the save in the game.  The offense spark was provided by Nick Caito with 2 two-out RBI in the first and Branden Bartlett who was 3-3 with 3 RBI.  Cassidy McDaniel, Colin Miller and Ryan Smith also had hits in the game.  The Falcons host Osbourn Tuesday at Athey Ballpark at FHS.

Sunday, April 15, 2007

Falcons(3-6) 5 West Geauga 9

The Falcons finished their Southern trip in a losing effort.  In his first start of the year Billy Pierce threw well, giving the Falcons a chance to win, but defensive miscues plagued the Falcons again.  The Falcons look to return to winning form on Tuesday when they travel to Battlefield High School in Haymarket to continue district play.

Falcons(3-5) 15 Enderlin 0

The Falcons offense finally came alive with just about everyone making contributions.  On the mound, Cassidy McDaniel was exceptional in his return performance after his recent elbow injury.  He was followed by Greg Ussery who also pitched well.
